The 993 Generation is truly the most influential of all Porsche’s Turbo models.
It is in some ways the end of an Era, as the last of the air-cooled 911s, but it also set the blueprint for every single Turbo model since.
It is unmistakably an evolution of the earliest 911 models, with its small cabin, air-cooled sound, and bank-vault build quality.
Yet since this model debuted in the Nineties, every single Turbo has been four-wheel-drive, twin-turbocharged, and laden with the best available technology. Effortless, continent-crushing performance coupled with everyday luxury, and the knowledge you are driving the best of the best for any conditions.
Tiff Needel musing on the iconic 959 said:
“Supercar meant super fast, and no production Porsche could get anywhere near the 959. But now, the new 911 Turbo does just that. For the first time it’s four wheel drive, for the first time the 3.6 engine has twin turbos…” and then he went on to throw it around the incredible MIRA handling track at incredible speed, complimenting its grip, stability and performance.
0-60mph in 4.3 seconds, in the mid-Nineties, was extraordinary with some magazines even claiming sub-four-seconds. Porsche took the performance of the old, wild 930 and 964 Turbos, raised the bar and made it accessible in a way not seen before by throwing all available new technology and typical German engineering at their new flagship - ABS, LSD, Automatic Brake Differential, which prevented individual wheels from losing traction, dual intercoolers, and, unusually for the time, 18” wheels and a six-speed gearbox.
From the model year 1997 cars like this one made 430PS, with massive torque and minimal turbo lag due to the new twin-turbo set up.
Values of the 993 Turbo have been rising steadily as collectors are generally favouring cars from this era as they are so useable, reliable and with near-modern performance levels. This is a serious performance car by any standards, yet retains so much of the period charm and character of the earlier air-cooled cars.
This rare Speed Yellow example presents beautifully having been given a loving refresh by its current owner. Specified with matching yellow seatbelts and contrast yellow stitching it exudes a bright confidence.
A C23 Australian specification spending majority of its life a Perth, WA, it was, perhaps unusual for a Turbo of this era, just used as a regular car by its first owner. Long commutes from his property into metro Perth meant it was used and serviced regularly in its early life.
After a few years with very minimal use, it has received a great deal of attention, both mechanical and cosmetic, to bring it to its current beautiful condition. Care has been taken to correct any defects in the paint and it has been completely ceramic coated to allow this rare colour to shine.
Much work has been completed to ensure it is mechanically excellent and ready for its new owner to enjoy without worry, including a full, engine-out service, a new clutch and new brakes all round, carried out at Porsche Centre Classic Department, with over $30,000 spend over the last twelve months.
With many 993 Turbos being specified in more subdued colours, this is your opportunity to own THE iconic Nineties Porsche in a knock-out colour combination, ready to use and enjoy.
