1988 MERCEDES-BENZ 300CE

Making up around 5% of total W124 E-Class production, the C124 coupé is something of a cult collector car, far higher quality than the CLK which replaced it, and the absolute pinnacle of Mercedes engineering and Bruno Sacco design. When people talk of Mercedes Quality it is this era they are talking about. 

Peerless in its day, the 300CE offers an experience like no other coupe and with pillarless windows down and sunroof open, you begin to understand why people were happy to pay the enormous list price of these cars when new. 

Mercedes-Benz vehicles are well-known for their brilliant engineering, fluid driving, and stylish elegance. Many argue that the 124 series represents the last of the old-guard Benzes – when Benz masterpie ces were designed by engineers with a “cost-is-no-object” approach. 

Whilst the 124 series were produced in great number, the coupés of the series were designed to be exclusive – with a price tag to match. Of the almost 2.6 million 124 series vehicles produced, just 141,498 were coupés – and only 43,486 were the 300CE. In other words, the 300CE represents less than 1.7% of all 124 series vehicles produced. This comparatively low production volume means that the 300CE will become increasingly collectible over time.

This is an Australian delivered Mercedes-Benz 300CE coupé. Delivered new by Lane Motors Mercedes-Benz on the 15th July 1988 according to its original pre-delivery inspection with just 61,000 kms recorded since. 

It presents beautifully in its stunning colour combination of Desert Taupe over Brazil interior. The tasteful specification of this 300CE from new would be almost impossible to find in another example. 

Accompanied by a complete and up-to-date maintenance history, the car has just been serviced by specialist CMR Automotive in Marrickville, and all original manuals and books are present. 

For the first time in a long time, we this Benz is offered for sale in its home city of Melbourne. It has its original Lanes of Melbourne window sticker and even a contemporary “Guide to Melbourne” in the glovebox.
