1988 Ferrari 328 GTS

The Ferrari 328 is increasingly recognised as one of the defining sports cars of Ferrari’s analogue era. Introduced in 1985 as the successor to the 308, it represented the culmination of Ferrari’s highly successful mid-engined V8 road-car formula before the marque moved into a new generation of increasingly sophisticated and electronically managed performance cars.

Designed by Pininfarina, the 328 retained the essential architecture and visual language of the 308 while introducing a larger 3.2-litre V8, revised styling and improvements throughout the chassis and drivetrain. It was the final naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari of its particular lineage, and today occupies an increasingly attractive position among collectors seeking a usable example of Ferrari’s classic period.

The GTS body style is arguably the most evocative expression of the 328. With its removable roof panel, low-slung proportions and exposed mid-mounted V8, it combines the visual drama of a classic Ferrari with the added pleasure of open-air touring.

This 1988 Ferrari 328 GTS is finished in Rosso Corsa over Tan, perhaps the most immediately recognisable Ferrari colour combination of the period. It was delivered new in Australia through Maranello Concessionaires on the 27th of June 1988 and has remained well documented throughout its life, having passed through the hands of just three owners from new.

The car has travelled 105,000 kilometres, a figure that reflects genuine use rather than a life spent solely in storage. For a 328, this is perhaps an important distinction. These cars were designed to be driven, and examples retaining their original character while benefiting from considered mechanical maintenance are increasingly sought after.

Adding further substance to its provenance, the car retains its original Ferrari books.

Prior to sale, it has undergone a significant programme of mechanical maintenance designed to establish a sound foundation for its next owner. This has included replacement cambelts, comprehensive attention to the fuel system, distributor servicing, replacement of the fuel accumulator and injectors, along with new Bridgestone tyres.
