1965 ASTON MARTIN DB6 MK1 VANTAGE

The penultimate gentleman’s sports coupé, conceived during the swingin’ 60s and the most recognisable design in the world, the Aston Martin DB6 was launched at the London Motor Show in October 1965 and marked a special occasion – the end of the original DB line.

The all-new design featured a functional Kamm tail, improving high-speed stability, split front and rear bumpers, a redesigned oil cooler aperture for the front valance, a taller roofline, and a longer wheelbase, making the DB6 a faster, more dynamic sports car disguised as a more practical proposition.

Presented in its original and highly desirable Silver Birch exterior, this 1965 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage is a beautifully restored example combining exceptional provenance, concours-winning presentation and a particularly interesting factory specification.

Being one of only 268 Mk1s ever produced in right-hand drive with the desirable Vantage specification, incorporating a 4.0-litre inline six-cylinder powerplant with triple Weber carburettors, escalating performance from 287 to 325 horsepower and simultaneously achieving a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.1 seconds, this DB6 is an incredibly rare find.

Originally built for the UK market, this DB6 Vantage was subsequently first registered in New Zealand and retains its numbers-matching drivetrain, adding further significance to an already distinguished example.

Another defining feature of this particular car is its Borg Warner 3-Speed Automatic transmission, specified from new and providing a rare alternative to the more commonly encountered manual configuration. The result is a DB6 Vantage that retains all of the character and performance of Aston Martin's celebrated grand tourer, with the added convenience of automatic transmission.

The car was originally specified with a Red Connolly leather interior. During its comprehensive restoration, this was changed to classic Black Connolly leather, beautifully complementing the Silver Birch exterior giving the car a more timeless, desirable and iconic combination.

Between 2007 and 2009, the DB6 underwent an extensive restoration carried out with marque specialists, with considerable attention paid to its mechanical integrity, bodywork, interior and overall presentation. The quality of the finished result has subsequently been recognised at concours level.
